Urban Poling Beats a Walking Workout.  Also called Nordic walking, technique burns more calories and is easier on joints

“If I’m going for a walk, I’d much rather take the poles because I am burning up to 46 per cent more calories. I am using up to 25 per cent more oxygen and I’m using 90 per cent of the muscles in my body rather than just from the hips down. You are using all your back muscles and your core,” he said. “So every step you take you are doing a mini crunch for your abs. If you take 1,800 steps, you’ve done 1,800 mini crunches. It really adds up.”
