o happy to share with our Urban Poling Community about an upcoming Webinar NADA will be hosting titled “My Life with Diabetes”,
with presenter Marisa Cardinal Wednesday, February 7, at 11 a.m.
We hope Marisa’s story will be an inspiration to you on your fitness journey and we cannot wait to tune in to the webinar to see it has impacted her life for the better !
Marisa Cardinal, Saddle Lake Cree Nation, Alberta, is a 41 year-old mother of 6 who was diagnosed with gestational diabetes and has developed a passion for fitness as means to manage her diabetes along with nutrition and medication. She states, “I have found that weightlifting has helped me manage my weight and my blood sugars in ways I didn’t think were possible.” Marisa will share her personal journey that includes a family history of diabetes and heart disease to where she is today – pursuing fitness and nutrition in her work, her education, and her life.
The webinar will be broadcast in coordination with Indigenous Diabetes Health Circle (IDHC, formerly SOADI).
The webinar will air live Wednesday, February 7, at 11 a.m. central time.
Co-directors Mandy Shintani and Diana Oliver are women at different stages of life with very different professional backgrounds, yet they share a dream – to help others realize the many benefits Urban Poling has given to them.

For moderately steep slopes, simply decrease the pressure on the base of the handles or drag your poles behind you. For steep slopes, keep your poles upright and in front and out to the side slightly, so if you do fall you won’t land on your poles. Bend your knees and elbows, and slow down any momentum. For long descents, it may be helpful to lengthen the poles.
