Let’s Raise the Bar In 2015 – Together!

From all of us at Urban Poling we’d like to wish you a very Happy & Healthy New Year.  2015 marks a very special year for us and for Canadians as a whole.  Urban Poling is celebrating a very special milestone which we will be sharing with you in a very short time.  2015 marks the Year of Sport and there is a significant amount of hype and excitement around this which we whole-heartedly share.  Physical Literacy, Exercise as a form of Medicine, Active Aging and prevention of chronic disease through exercise are all key messages that are predicating this amazing change in behavior and movement towards a healthier Canada.

This new year, we encourage you to raise the bar with Urban Poling!  If you’re already an avid Urban Poler, push yourself by adding challenges to your Urban Poling work-out.  For example, seek out the nearest hill, try snow-shoeing with your poles – whatever your challenge or goals may be we support you.  If you have never tried Urban Poling – what are you waiting for?  Urban Poling works 90% of your muscles simultaneously allowing you to burn up to 46% more calories versus walking without poles.   Oh, and did we mention the 1800 abdominal contractions per mile, say no more right!

It’s a New Year, let’s embrace 2015 with vigour and our Urban Poles in hand!

Going downhill

For moderately steep slopes, simply decrease the pressure on the base of the handles or drag your poles behind you. For steep slopes, keep your poles upright and in front and out to the side slightly, so if you do fall you won’t land on your poles. Bend your knees and elbows, and slow down any momentum. For long descents, it may be helpful to lengthen the poles.
